Integration of Population and Gender into National and Sectoral Planning (IPGNSP)

Objectives:

The purpose of this activity was to identify the discriminatory provisions towards women and girls in national policies and strategies, harmful practices and others. The proposed policy briefs would strengthen the capacity by providing policy level inputs to the Government of Bangladesh (GOB), the Civil Society, and the academicians. The policy briefs would stimulate the stakeholders with a wealth of information and help to provide guidelines for future course of actions on population and TFR related issues. This is very important particularly in view of government’s priority in decentralized planning. The policy brief will play a role in subsequent revisions of the different sectoral policies.

Services:

  • Research/Studies on discriminatory provision towards women and girls and Dissemination
  • Preparation of a Strategy for Partnership with Civil Society and Others for Promotion of Reproductive Health and Gender

MSL was involved in two separate studies. One of the studies was ‘A review to identify legal provisions that are inconsistent with CEDAW.’ The other was ‘A study on integration of population and gender concerns in national and sectoral policies and strategies.’ The studies were aimed at drawing an authoritative guidance to identify the avenues for taking appropriate gender equality measures which could be implemented to enhance the integration of population and gender issues into the national and sectoral policies. Specific activities of MSL were to conduct literature review including review of implementation status of CEDAW, review of sectoral policy, review of plan documents and of Action Plans. Other tasks included key informants’ interview, stakeholders’ consultations and information dissemination through workshops.
