TA 4821-BAN: Development of Transport Corridors for Trade Facilitation


The project aimed to facilitate inter-regional trade – with all regional countries having favorable policy based on mutual interests – by guided towards the provision of appropriate corridor facilities by improved physical transport infrastructure links, land ports, rail ports, river ports and gateways – complemented by improvements to the cross-border arrangements and procedures, particularly those for operations, custom documentations and clearance procedures for cross-border movements of freights to achieve maximum trade facilitation benefits – to be studied for assessing the feasibility. This project specifically intended to study and review the trade transport corridors and cross-border operations by improved efficiency of the existing arrangements.


MSL along with STUP for this ADB PPTA, conducted the study in two phases. The objective of Phase I of the Study was to formulate a prioritized list of possible infrastructure improvements along the identified transport corridors and border-crossing facilities including physical improvements to gateways for the consideration of ADB and the Government. This prioritization was based on economic criteria. The objective of Phase II of the Study was to prepare possible projects from this prioritized list based on the decision of the ADB and the Government. MSL performed the following activities:
